W ith a host of mountain ranges and nature reserves, and a coastline that is so diverse, there is no shortage of hiking trails - each uniquely breathtaking.Kogelberg is the Cape Nature Conservation's prettiest reserve. It is considered the heart of the Cape Floral Kingdom. There are 4 recognised trails Kogelberg, 23km; 8-9 hours long, is a circular route taking you through the heart of the reserve. Palmiet River Walk, 9km; 3-4 hours, hugs the river and is graded easy. Palmiet Valley Trail, 18km; 6-7 hours, is also along the river, but goes deeper into the reserve to the Stokoe Bridge. The Oudebosch to Leopard's Gorge hike is 6km and takes one through an indigenous forest from the Oudebosch offices to the top of the mountain and down into the Harold Porter Gardens in Betty's Bay. It is strictly one-way only and transfer is provided by the guest house. Hikers can expect to see views of the coastline, shale forests, diverse terrain and various sandstone formations. |
